I was surprised by how much people liked the wax sculpture of bubbles. I think because of this i want to develop it further and make it on a larger scale. To do this i am going to use a polystyrene mold or maybe coat a bowl in grease proof or plastic sheeting so that it does not stick to the bowl. I think i want to do it like head size, i think this would be manageable to carry and yet not to large that it becomes fragile. i think i will do it again with the white candle as i thought it was interesting how the white wax became different tones of grey because of the black smoke. I think because of this it looked more realistic. I will use the sparkling water again to try and manipulate the wax.i don't know why i think i need it to be in the mold of half a sphere but i think it would be displayed more successfully. Also it means it is less fragile as if i was to make it flat it would be more easier to crack. I also think it would be more interesting as a bowl shape as it would mean people would have to look in to it from a Birdseye view.
Pascal Smelik
The key themes associated with Smelik work are, organic process, unique, random, natural, elements, form and shape. His work explores wax, makes it become something weird and wonderful something that looks like it had been grown not made. His work is uncanny, it transforms wax into this mold-able liquid that grows and lives. I like how the process of his work is organic, he allows the shapes to develop naturally.
Development of wax experimentation
Today i got a medium sized basket ball and covered it in clingfilm. I then drew in a marker pen around the ball with a marker pen. Carefully and slowly i melted the wax and dripped it around half the ball till i had coated the entire surface of a semi circle. I then at this state thought it would be easy to peal of the ball but i found the clingfilm griped to it, to get the wax case of i had to heat it so it was slightly malleable by putting it in the over for a while. I then bent it off the ball and held it in the desired shape until the wax had cooled and gone hard. I thought i would then be able to peal of the clingfilm but i have found it has melted with the wax, for this reason i am going to leave the clingfilm on as i think it will not be noticeable when i have finished. I am now waiting for the ball of wax to completely cool. I then once it has set plan on melting wax bit by bit and pouring it inside the bowl shaped wax, then i will add the sparkling water to it to give it that bubbled effect. I think this will also allow the ball to become more sturdy. I was to make sure i do it in little stages so that i can keep all the detail i got when i did the small experiment.
